Canadian national team general manager explained the call-up of Crosby, McDavid and Pietrangelo for OG-2022

Canadian general manager Doug Armstrong explained the selection of Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) and Alex Pietrangelo (Vegas Golden Knights) as the first hockey players to be named to the national team's bid for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

"Needless to say, everyone understands the caliber of players Sidney and Connor are, and Alex, for his part, has plenty of experience playing at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, the 2016 World Cup and captaining the St. Louis Blues in 2019, when the team won the Stanley Cup. These guys are at the peak of their careers, they've already proven to everyone that they have a winning spirit.

I've talked to Crosby more than any other hockey player just because of my longtime friendship with him. There's no question he's going to be a leader of our national team. He will be a great asset to the coaching staff, passing on their setups to the rest of the players. To me, he's just Sidney Crosby. He's the best player on the planet for over a decade straight. I don't think other players will have any feelings of awe for him, but they will respect him, for sure," the NHL press service quotes Doug Armstrong as saying.
